[Also in Division D1] A process for the manufacture of fleece material comprises connecting, e.g. by needling, fleeces of different shrinkage characteristics, and subjecting the fleeces to shrinkage followed by a finishing treatment, e.g. brushing, steaming or sizing. A fleece of substantially unshrinkable fibres may be connected to a needled fleece of shrinkable fibres. In the preferred form, the fleece of less shrinkable fibres is cut, after the shrinkage treatment, to produce a pile effect.
