Abstract

1,171,607. Papermaking; paper. GLANZSTOFF A.G. 1 Nov., 1966 [14 Dec., 1965], No. 48980/66. Headings D2A and D2B. Fleeces, suitable as bases for artificial leather, are made from mixtures of fibres of three different kinds: (I) synthetic fibres that shrink when treated with water at 90 to 100‹C, (II) non-shrinkable or substantially non- shrinkable natural or synthetic fibres, and (III) synthetic fibres that soften or melt at 90 to 100‹C in the presence of water. The fibres are dispersed in water and formed into a fleece on a paper-making machine, water is removed to a residual content of 50 to 70% without the use of heat, the wet fleece is exposed briefly but without pressure or tension to highfrequency or infra-red radiation and thereafter dried, again without the use of pressure or tension. Fibres used are of: (I) a copolyamide formed from 20% of adipic acid-hexamethylenediamine salt and 80% of caprolactan, a copolyamide formed from adipic acid-hexamethylenediamine salt and alkylene-bis(aminopropyl ether adipate), or highly stretched polyethylene terephthalate; (II) polycaprolactam, regenerated cellulose or natural fibres; and (III) copolyamide formed from 40% of adipic acid -hexamethylenediamine salt and 60% of caprolactam. The high-frequency or infra-red radiation can be supplied by radiators placed immediately behind the wet section of a papermaking machine.
