Abstract

Sheets are made from polyamide fibres by treating on a papermaking machine an aqueous dispersion of fibres of which 10 to 100% by weight are copolyamide fibres which soften under the action of heat in the presence of moisture, and then subjecting the formed fibrous web in the moist condition to a heat treatment to stick the web. The copolyamide may be one formed from hexamethylenediamine adipate and caprolactam. Other fibres may be present, e.g. of polyhexamethyleneadipamide or polycaprolactam. The heat treatment may be by guiding the moist web without tension over a heated rotating cylinder, or by infra red radiators. The product can be paper-like or fabric-like, porous or transparent.
