393,740. Photographic drying and glazing apparatus. GERSTER, H., Wensikendorfer Weg, Schmachtenhagen, near Oranienburg, Germany. April 29, 1932, No. 12363. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1931. [Class 98 (ii).] Apparatus for drying and glazing photographs, comprising a moving porous band which presses the wet photographs against a polished and heated moving surface, is characterised by one or more additional heating devices around or through which the band alone is diverted to dry it after its initial contact with a moist photograph, the band being returned to the main heated surface, preferably close to the point at which it was diverted, in order to continue to press the photograph thereon. As shown, photographs are passed round a polished and heated rotary drum 1 by an endless moving band 2 which presses them on the drum. After passing from the entraining roller 4 round a part of the periphery of the drum, the band is diverted by a roller 5 to a rotary heated drum or roller 6 or through a heated box, whence it passes back round a roller 7 to the drum 1. The rollers 5, 7 are placed close together so that the photographs are not diverted. The band may be diverted and returned in this manner in succession to two or more auxiliary heating devices. The heating of the drum 6 is controlled from the heating or driving of the drum 1 so that both are started or stopped together.
