Abstract

Indicating, recording, and registering apparatus.-The variation in plasticity or resistence to binding of paper and the like, according as the degree of moisture present varies, is made use of in apparatus for indicating and recording the degree of moisture present in paper in a semi dry or nearly dry condition. The apparatus is applied to the paper between the press rolls and the drying cylinders and comprises grooved rollers 2, 3 the ridges of one roller being located opposite the grooves of the other so that the rollers move towards and away from each other as the moisture content varies. The roller 3 is rigidly mounted while the roller 2 is mounted on an arm 7 pivoted at 9 and connected at its extension 8 to the toothed segment of an indicator 13. The roller 3 may be dispensed with, the roller 2 then co-operating with a drying roller which is grooved for this purpose. In a modification shown in Fig. 2, the lower roller is in two parts 19, 20 between which a disc or roller 25 is mounted on a pivoted arm 26 to move with the upper roller 15, the movement completing an electric circuit through contact points 27, 29 to indicate increase of moisture present or to operate the heating control.
