Drying materials in long lengths.-A web of warp threads &c. after treatment in a sizing-vat is dried during passage through the narrow space between a large rotary drum a having perforate ribs e for supporting the web and a casing b in countercurrent to a stream of air which is continuously circulated by a fan g. Heaters i may be placed in the passage h or. alternatively, the casing may be heated externally. Guide plates f, k are provided to direct the air to both sides of the web. Inspection windows, valves, &c. are provided in the casing. In a modification, the ribs are replaced by rollers carried by radial arms. The speed of the fan g may be controlled by that of the drum.
