Abstract

270,430. Broughton, F., and Henshilwood, A. B. Feb. 13, 1928. Drying materials in long lengths. - Woven fabric a to be dried is conveyed by stenter chains through a chamber having alternate sections 2, 7, the sections 2 having steam-coils 3, 4, disposed above and below the fabric, and fans 5 for circulating the air and the vapour evolved during the drying. The pressure of the circulating medium is such as to prevent the admission of air into the chamber at the places at which the fabric enters and leaves it. The vanes of the fans in adjacent sections 4 are oppositely inclined so that gaseous medium directed to one edge of the fabric in one section and to the opposite edge in the next. The sections are provided with hinged doors.
