Abstract
637,168. Presses for separating liquids from solids. KING, D. S. Sept. 30, 1947, No. 29140/46. [Class 46] [Also in Group XII] Apparatus for de-watering peat comprises an extruder 26 having a fish-tail delivery nozzle 30, such that the effective cross-sectional areas of the extruder barrel at its delivery end and the delivery nozzle are substantially the same, which delivers a ribbon of peat to a pair of horizontal. rollers 12 and 16, the upper of which has a roughened surface and may be steam-heated. The peat may then pass right over the roller 12 to be removed by a scraper 56 or it may be fed to an endless belt conveyer and subjected to infra-red heating. The extruder barrel has slits 46 which allow draining of water along the barrel and the rollers are preferably positioned so that the ribbon of peat is fed upwardly to the rollers.
