Abstract

1,274,877. Drying by dielectric heating. INTERTHERM Ltd. 30 June, 1969, No. 32928/69. Heading F4G. [Also in Division H5] High frequency heating apparatus, e.g. for drying a travelling web 1 passed over rollers 2 beneath a stray-field platen formed of an array of parallel rod electrodes 3, 4, (see Division H5), is characterized by alternate electrodes 4 being displaceable away from the web 1 to reduce the heating effect over a predetermined region, e.g. over that part of the platen adjacent which the web 1 is first passed. The displacement is done manually or automatically, and may be controlled in dependence on the water content of the input web. Drying of leather, paper or carpets is referred to, and also curing of resin and P.V.C. formulations. The web 1 is passed horizontally or vertically past a horizontal or vertical platen. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,157,314.
