Abstract

1,091,073. Papermaking; paper. JAMES R. CROMPTON & BROS. Ltd. April 8, 1965 [April 15, 1964], No. 15540/64. Headings D2A and D2B. Paper is made by forming a liquid dispersion of fibres of two kinds and laying down a web from the dispersion. One kind of fibre is non- toxic, tasteless and thermoplastic, the other is non-thermoplastic, and -the two kinds have different specific gravities so that partial separation occurs, and one surface of the web has a higher concentration of thermoplastic fibres than the other. The thermoplastic fibres may be of polypropylene and the dispersion medium may be water. The non-thermoplastic fibres may be of manila, sisal, jute, wood pulp or regenerated cellulose. Cellulosic floc may be added to the mixture. The paper may also include melamine-formaldehyde condensation polymer. The web may be dried and heated at a temperature at which the thermoplastic fibres fuse, to increase the dry and wet strengths of the paper. The product may be used to make a heat-sealable tea bag. The paper may be made in the apparatus shown. The dispersion is fed from a head box 3 to form a web on the wire 4. White water is received in the trough 5.
