Abstract
608,762. Spinning travellers. HORSFIELD, J., and HOLT, J. E. Oct. 26, 1946, No. 22069/45. [Class 120(ii)] Yarn is laid on a package in a ring spinning machine by means of a guide, so disposed with respect to the traveller that at all times the yarn enters the traveller at the same distance from the spindle and passes from the point of entry on the traveller to the guide in a substantially tangential direction with regard to the ring. An annular traveller .1, which may be of flat or other section or made of wire, has extensions 2 to extend into the ring 3, Fig. 1, to hold the traveller 1 loosely captive and also has a downward extension 5 to make contact with the outer surface of the ring 3 under the inward pull of the yarn when in operation. The yarn passes beneath a hook 4, preferably formed in one with the extension 5, then along a slotted, tubular and arcuate guide 7 to a plain arcuate portion 10 having a V-groove to direct the yarn onto the spindle or yarn package, the distance between the portion 10 and the spindle or yarn package being less than the length of the fibres in the yarn. The guide 7 has a flat portion 9 pivoted at 6 to the traveller. This flat portion may be slotted at the pivot to allow a slight lateral movement. A preferred disposition of the extensions 2, hook 4 and pivot 6 is shown in Fig. 5.
