Abstract
601,676. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. Feb. 1, 1945, No. 2558. Convention date, Feb. 8, 1944. [Class 74(ii)] A wrap yarn is knitted in both directions of reciprocation of a circular machine by providing guide horns 8, 9, round one of which the wrap yarn passes when it is carried outside the needle circle by a feed arm 24 on a wrap spindle 7 rotating at the same angular speed as the needles. When the selected needles (which were lifted higher than usual) have been wrapped, the feed arm is swung inwards (as shown at 31) and the yarn drops off the end of the horn 8 and passes under a plate 20. For the next (clockwise) stroke, the horns 8, 9 are moved clockwise to bring the gap between them to the opposite side of the spindle 7, the horn 8 being lifted clear and the horn 9 lowered into operative position by pins 17 engaging cam slots. The loops are drawn on the backs of the sinkers as shown in Fig. 8 and described in Specification 600,921.
