Abstract
658,429. Knitting. HEMPHILL CO. Dec. 31, 1948, No. 33642. Convention date, March 20. [Class 74 (ii)] A knitted fabric has a section composed of a number of different yarns 1, 2, 3 followed by a section containing a different number of yarns, for example, one yarn 1, the ends of each of such knitted yarn 2, 3 as is not common to both sections and as is unspliced being passed through a number of sinker wales. As described, the fabric is knitted on a multi-feed circular machine. As shown, in course 4 the yarn 2 is taken out of action having knitted a loop such as 5. Thereafter the yarn 2 is taken by alternate needles 6, 7 so that after the yarn is cut its end is held by consecutive sinker loops. The yarn 3 after knitting at loop 9 is knitted by alternate needles 6, 7. When one yarn is replaced by another, the two yarns are spliced in the ordinary manner, whereas when, as shown in Fig. 3, an additional yarn 22 is introduced its free end is knitted by alternate needles to form loops 23, 24 and between these loops it passes through consecutive sinker loops.
