586,770. Knitting. HEMPHILL CO. Sept. 28, 1944, No. 18612. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1943. [Class 74 (ii)] A more uniform fabric is obtained by drawing the yarn 25 over the backs 16 of the sinkers 15 of a circular machine and, after the previously formed needle loops 24 have been cast off, causing the newly drawn sinker loops to pass from the backs to the throats 17 of the sinkers over the tops of the nibs 18. The sinkers are moved inwardly earlier than usual by providing a flopper cam 7 having a sinker-actuating surface 9. So that the yarn is not strained unduly in passing over the tops of the sinkers, the centre sinker cam 14 has an abrupt outwardly directed portion 13 so that few sinkers are moved outwardly together.
