Abstract

601,366. Catches. WRIGHT, T., and CHARNOCK, S. T. Dec. 5, 1945, No. 32916. [Class 44] A spring catch comprises a housing 1, a latch tongue 3 to slide into the housing, a resilient runner 8 supporting the latch tongue and urging it into locking engagement with a shoulder 7 inside the housing, and an abutment movable into and out of a position in which it prevents release of the latch by downward pressure on the web 22 which projects through a slot 23 in the housing. The abutment comprises a rotatable disc 13 having locking segments separated by gaps and is mounted on a barrel 10 rotatable by means of a key 12 to bring a locking segment or a gap into register with the latch 3. The blade spring in the form shown may have a ball-bearing runner or may be replaced by a helical spring. The catch may be used with a sliding clasp fastener, the sliding clasp being attached to the latch tongue and secured at the end of the fastener.
