Abstract
454,962. Sliding - clasp fastenings. LONGMORE, C. F., 100, Shortheath Road, Erdington, Birmingham, and LIGHTNING FASTENERS, Ltd., Imperial Chemical House, Millbank, London. April 11, 1935, No. 11289. [Class 44] A slider which can be locked at any position along a sliding-clasp fastener by a locking arm engaging the elements has the locking arm normally held in such engagement by means of a non-metallic elastic body, under some compression, such compression being further increased when the locking arm is disengaged by operation of the pull tab. For instance, a locking arm of L-shape with one limb 12 thereof received in a slot housing 11 at the head of the slider and mounted on a pivot 14 in such housing has such limb 12 urged outwardly by a solid cylindrical plug of rubber 16 whereby the other limb 13 is maintained in locking engagement with the fastener elements 18. Where the locking arm is protected by a covering bridge piece the plug may be located between the underside of the covering bridge piece and the top of the locking arm and may be held in position by adhesive or by fitting in recesses. The compressible member may be of cork, felt, or spongy rubber.
