Abstract

882,292. Sliding clasp fasteners. FLEX FASTENERS Ltd. April 20, 1960 [May 7, 1959], No. 15699/59. Class 44. In a sliding clasp fastener having a combined locking and pull element 7, Figs. 2, 4, damage to the fastener should excessive unintentional fastener opening forces arise is prevented by providing the slider body 1 and the locking element 7 with cam surfaces 17, 19, which engage under the action of the forces and withdraw a locking finger 14 of the element 7 from the interlocked fastener elements 6. The element 7 is spring-loaded into locking engagement by a spring 16 and is mounted on the body 1 through a pin 12 and slot 11 connection to allow longitudinal play relative thereto. The spring 16 may be omitted. In a further fastener a cam 124, Fig. 6, on the pivot pin 123 of a combined locking and pull element 107 coacts with two spaced cam faces 118 on the slider body 101, when excessive unintentional opening forces occur to raise a locking finger 114 from the interlocked fastener elements against a flat spring 116. In order to initially place the element 107 and the spring 116 in the body 101 the body cover 121 is divided as shown in Fig. 9 for subsequent swaying into a closed condition. In a modified slider the locking finger 114 is divided into two parts offset either side from the vertical central plane of the body 101 such that the spring 116 can pass between the parts. In a further modified form, instead of a single semi-cylindrical cam 124, there are provided two semi-cylindrical cams spaced apart to the same extent as the cam faces 118.
