Abstract

558,151. Sliding-clasp fasteners. MARLOW, E. H., and FLASH FASTENERS, Ltd. June 9, 1942, No. 7884. [Class 44] A locking slider for a sliding-clasp fastener has a pawl mounted in a recess 16 extending through the upper part of the slider above the fastener members 11, the pawl having a nose portion 19 adapted to engage between fastener members under the action of a leaf spring 28, a portion extending rearwardly from the nose close and parallel to the members, and its rear end abutting, in locking position, against the rear wall 20 of recess 16 to take thrust. The pawl is also lifted by cam action on pulling the tab 29 in either direction, a cross-bar 30 of the tab engaging with cam surfaces on the upper face of the slider, or as shown, engaging cam surfaces 33. 34 on the upper wall of a slot in the pawl through which the bar extends. The pawl described is pivoted by a single boss 21 engaging a depression in one wall of recess 16. Pawl and spring are retained by a slotted metal cover 23. A modification is described in which the nose 19 is laterally offset and recess 16 correspondingly shaped.
