[Class 44] In a slider of a sliding-clasp fastener having locking means engaging automatically between adjacent fastener members to retain the slider against accidental movement the usual pulltab is omitted and the looking device is released by a plate-member 18 housed in a recess in the upper wing 6 of the slider and normally flush with the surface thereof. As shown the locking member housed in recess 8 comprises a spring plate 13 having at one end a prong 12 permanently secured in the slider body, and at the other end depending prongs 15 normally extending through apertures in the bottom of recess 8 into engagement between fastener members 2. The central portion of plate 13 has an upwardly bent loop 14. The plate 18 housed in a recess and flush with the upper surface of the slider has depending lugs 19, 20, the inwardly turned lower ends of which are snapped into engagement with the loop 14 to retain the plate 18 and provide operating connection between it and the locking device. To release the locking device plate 18 may be given a sliding movement in either direction longitudinally of the slider (which movement may be limited by ribs, not shown, on the under surface of the plate) this movement lifting the prongs 15 out of engagement by the cam action of lugs 19, 20 on the under surface of loop 14. Alternatively plate 18 may be tilted by lifting either end, or may be raised bodily by finger and thumb engagement with both ends, to disengage the prongs 15. To facilitate manipulation of the plate by the finger-tip or nail the body of the slider may have undercut recesses 22 and the lower face of the slider may be rounded or bevelled as at 23 to facilitate passage of the slider over any underlying object.
