Abstract

598,898. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Oct. 3, 1944, No. 18952. Convention date, May 7, 1943. [Class 39 (i)] In an electron discharge device of the type having a metal grid supporting disc extending through a glass envelope, a metal member 'carrying a central lead rod supporting the cathode, extends through and is screw-threaded externally of the envelope so that it may be connected to a cylindrical conductor positioned about a bulbular part of the envelope. As shown in Fig. 1, the member 20 supporting a plurality of filament leads 22 has a shoulder 24, to which is screwed a cylindrical conductor 26. The central filament lead 28, forming a condenser with the coaxial sleeve 42, is screwed into the cylindrical member 30, which is threaded at 34 to a second cylindrical conductor 36 and which is secured to the exhaust tube 38. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the filament leads extend through the exhaust tube, and the central lead rod is screwed in the cathode support, to which the exhaust tube is sealed directly the intermediate member 30 and second cylindrical conductor being omitted. The grid supporting disc 14 may alternatively be generally conical and joined to the cathode support by a conical glass portion of the envelope.
