Abstract

598,281. Bobbins O'GRADY, M. D. Sept. 18, 1945, No. 24126. Convention date, Oct. 20, 1944. [Class 120 (iii)] A bobbin, more particularly for use in drawing and other spinning machines, has flanges of wood or thermoplastic or thermosetting material and a hollow cylindrical metal barrel the ends of which carry wooden bushes, the barrel being provided at or near each end with additional metal flanges and bolts for supporting the wooden &c. flanges and securing them to the barrel. In one form, Fig. 2, a wooden flange C is secured by bolts D between a metal flange B welded or brazed to barrel A and a metal ring F which may fit into recesses G in flange C and are provided with countersunk holes for the bolt heads and nuts. A wooden bush J having a slightly conical exterior is seated in the end of barrel A, which may be suitably flared by means of an appropriate tool prior to the insertion of the bush, and is held against rotation by means of a rib or ribs K on the interior surface of the barrel. Ring F may extend inwardly to overlie the end of bush J and to retain the latter in position. In a modification, Fig. 3, wooden flange C is bolted to a metal flange B' formed at the end of barrel A, the metal flange at the other end of the barrel being formed with a screw-threaded sleeve which screws detachably on to the barrel end. Plug J. is cylindrical and extends beyond flange C so as to be secured in place by grub screws L. In a further modification, Fig. 5, metal flange B<3> is provided with a sleeve P which may be welded to barrel A or may be secured by grub screws L<3> which also serve to secure bush J.
