Abstract

797,926. Bobbins, LANGHORN, A. T. J. July 5, 1956 [April 7, 1955], No. 10177/55. Class 120(3) A yarn bobbin or spool comprises a cylindrical barrel, which may be formed of glass fibre, a thermosetting plastic material such as urea-formaldehyde or wood, carrying replaceable, resin-impregnated plywood, end flanges each secured to the barrel and reinforced by a metal plate on or flush with the outer face thereof. In the bobbin of Fig. 1, flanges 11, 12, are clamped between plates 13, 14, and shouldered ends of a barrel 10 (which may have a tapered or parallel bore), fitting within same, by means of bolts 15 (optionally with heads 17), and conical nuts 16. In a modification, Fig. 3, the barrel 103 comprises at each end a flange 103a fitting within a flange 113 secured by a plate 113 (a boss 133a of which forms a spindle bearing). As shown in Fig. 4, a bobbin having a solid barrel 104 may comprise plates, as at 134, formed integrally with stub shafts, as at 134a. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, each flange is secured by screw-threaded engagement of a boss 135a of a plate 135 with a boss 21 (also forming a spindle bearing) of a metal cap 18 the flange 19 of which is secured to the barrel 105 by screws, as at 20, the assembly being locked by grub screws, as at 22.
