Abstract
595,137. Bobbins. NICOLL, J. L. Oct. 30, 1944, No. 21119. [Class 120 (iii)] A single or double flanged bobbin, in which the outer face of one or both flanges is reinforced by an insert of compressed fibre or other wear-resistant material, is characterised by the insert being in the form of an annulus which is dished prior to its application on the side to be applied to the flange, and which is then forced into an annular depression or channel in the flange face and is held in the flattened state by screws or other holding means. As shown, an insert ring 8 is dished, glued and fitted tightly, concave side inwards, into a channel 7 cut in the wooden flange 3. It is then tightened down flush with the flange face by wood screws, and tightly engages the outer edges 14 of the channel 7. Holes 6a are drilled in the insert and flange to engage the usual driving pins, which will ride on the insert when the bobbin is first dropped into position on a winding spindle. The invention may be used to increase the resistance to wear of a new bobbin or to repair a bobbin already worn by the driving pins.
