Abstract

575,878. Spindle &c. driving and stop arrangements for spinning &c. machines. BOYD, Ltd., J. & T., and BOYD, H. A. April 20, 1944, Nos. 7310 and 24953. [Class 120 (ii)] In a spinning &c. machine incorporating an intermediate whorl 23 interpolated between the spindle 3 and the main driving drum 1, the whorl 23 being driven by a primary tape 2 and itself driving the spindle 3 through a secondary tape 2a, the intermediate whorl 23 is carried by a movable bracket 21 which may be operated either manually or automatically on thread failure, to move the whorl 23 nearer the spindle to slacken the secondary tape 2a and stop the spindle while allowing the primary tape 2 to continue running. The bracket 21 in swinging towards the spindle and upwardly, brings a dead collar 24 under the tape 2a to bring same to rest. Both tapes 2, 2a are tensioned, in normal operation, by a single weighted pulley 4. In a modification, Fig. 3, the intermediate whorl 23 is carried by a weighted lever 30 pivoted at 31 to a weighted bell-crank lever 32, 33 so that the whorl 23 applies tension to both the primary and secondary tapes 2, 2a.
