554,485. Knot-tying devices. USTER FACTORIES FOR APPARATUS & MACHINES, (formerly ZELLWEGER, Ltd.). June 3, 1942, No. 7557. Convention date, March 27, 1941. [Class 112] A hand-carried knotter for spoolers' knots comprises the usual rotating bill 14 carried in rotor 12. The first movement of the thumb-lever 3, in a counterclockwise direction which rotates the segment 23 clockwise, rotates the bill through 360 degrees when the cutting member of the bill closes on the threads. Further movement rotates the bill through a further 110 degrees and, simultaneously, turns the rotor 12 to lift the bill away from the thread clamp 8. During an early part of its rotation, the bill enters a recess 34 in the frame to prevent the premature slipping of the thread loops of the bill. The thumb-lever drives the segment 23 by means of a pinion 25 and its spindle carries a lug 32 which, through a rod 33, opens the thread clamp 8. The first movement of the thumb-lever moves the lug 32 back and permits the clamp 8 to close on the threads before the threads are looped around the bill. Two modifications are described in which the thumb-lever is fixed on the spindle of the segment 23.
