Class 120(2) The device for starting a yarn winding operation described in the parent Specification is modified in that the yarn gripper 2 is provided with a cylindrical guide boss 2a which slides in a bore of the driving head 1 and has a circumference of greater length than the gripped portion of yarn. The gripper 2 is loaded by a spring 4 that is compressed in the winding position so that yarn lying on the boss 2a is gripped but falls away with the bobbin at the completion of winding.
