726,408. Sewing-machines. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP FRIDOR FABRIEKEN. Oct. 15, 1953 [Oct. 20, 1952], No. 28491/53. Class 112. Needle-holders. A needle-bar 1 has a longitudinal bore for the passage of a needle 3, and means are provided for gradually arresting the fall of a needle therethrough in a temporary position, as shown, whence it is drawn by hand. to the correct operative position. In the form shown, the needle-bar bore has a lining tube 2 with a non-circular axial passage whereby the needle is correctly orientated. The arresting means is a pawl 13 pivoted at 14 to the needle-holder 6 and pressed by a spring ring 15 into a position in which it engages a.tapered portion 17 of the needle. The operative position of the needle (in which it is clamped by a screw not shown) is defined by the nose of the pawl 13 projecting over the top end of the needle. The needle-holder is located on the needle-bar by a pin 8 and clamped by a screw 7. In a modification, the pawl is replaced by the ends of a spring wire loop located in grooves in the needle-bar, to which the needle may be clamped directly. In another modification, the needle is arrested by a ring of felt or rubber on the lower end of the tube 2, and is located in its operative position by a removable pin which can be passed through holes in the tube.
