Abstract

681,366. Bobbins. LINDLEY, P. H. July 5, 1950 [Aug. 22, 1949], No. 21769/49. Class 120(iii) End fittings 2 (one only of which is shown) are secured on the ends of the central tube 1 of a bobbin by inserting each end of the tube into an annular recess 5 in the inner face of its respective end fitting, openings 6 leading from the outer face of each end fitting sufficiently far to expose part of the end of the tube which is then riveted or burred over by a tool inserted through the openings. A spigot or extension 4 on each end fitting extends into the end of the tube beyond the plane of the inner face of the fitting. This spigot may be screw threaded as shown or it may be of cylindrical, conical or part-conical form and forced into the end of the tube. In modified constructions, a rectangular or cruciform opening in the end fittings provides means for riveting over the ends of the tube and also for driving the bobbin. Alternatively, ribs may be formed on an end fitting for driving purposes.
