Abstract
597,630. Grab-buckets. BROSIUS, E. E. Feb. 11, 1944, No. 2566. Convention date, Oct. 9, 1943. [Class 78(iv)] In a grab-bucket suspended by a hook 4 from an overhead crane, the scoops 5, supported by links 7 on a frame 2, are operated through pairs of levers 11, 13 keyed to shafts 9, 10 which have pinions 15, 16 engaging rack portions on a member 19. This member is integral with a piston 18 operating in fluid-pressure cylinder 17 under the influence of oil fed into the cylinder from a tank 22 by a pump 23 driven by an electric motor 24. The cylinder ends are connected by conduits 34, 36 to an electro-magnetically operated valve 27. Automatic control mechanism for the motor and the valve is mounted on the grab, the electric conductors being contained in a single cable passing upwardly along the cable carrying the hook and the main circuitbreaker being mounted in the cab of the crane. Instead of using the valve 27, the motor 24 and pump 23 may be made reversible.
