Abstract

837,944. Grab excavators. ETABLISSEMENTS F. POTAIN & CIE. Oct. 14, 1958 [Oct. 17, 1957], No. 32695/58. Class 68(1) The opening, closing and hoisting of a grab bucket is controlled by two cables 5, 6 both of which pass about identical pulley systems 47-51 and 36, 37, 44, 45 associated with an hydraulic jack 31 to which one 6 of the cables is secured at the end to the cylinder thereof, whilst the other cable after passing about a further pulley system 22-23 associated with another hydraulic jack 20 is similarly secured to the cylinder of this second jack. Opening and closing of the jaws 11 of the grab is controlled by jacks 20 acting on cable 5, whilst jack 31 remains stationary. Hoisting of the grab is controlled by jack 31 acting simultaneously and equally on the two cables 5, 6. The pulley systems associated with the jacks 20, 31 result in movement of the jacks being multiplied when applied to the cables. The cable 5 passes several times between pulleys mounted on both of the cross bars 7, 13 of the grab bucket.
