Abstract
597,470. Thermionic cathodes. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Aug. 21, 1945, No. 21307. Convention date, June 5, 1940. [Class 39 (i)] An indirectly heated cathodewherein the emitting layer is carried on a tube 7 of nickel or other material of high thermal conductivity, is mounted in mica spacers 2, 3 by a tube 4 within the nickel tube or by cuffs or short projecting tubes entering the ends of the tube 7. This supporting means is of nickel iron, nickel chromium or other alloy of low thermal conductivity, so that the temperature drop along the protruding ends is at least 300‹ C. over a length of 2 mm. with a working temperature of 760-980‹ C. of the emitting portion. The heater is within the tube and extends only as far as the emitting layer. The subjectmatter is identical with that of Specification 550,733.
