Abstract
908,793. Electric heaters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 13, 1959 [July 11, 1958], No. 22304/58. Class 39 (3). An electric heater, e.g. for use as a boiling- plate or space or process heater, comprises a quartz tube heating element or lamp in combination with a screen of refractory material for radiating the heat to be used, the screen reducing glare and protecting the lamp from damage. The lamp may be of circular cross-section and completely enclosed by a metal tube of circular or square cross-section. A group of lamps 7, each including an electric filament 6, mounted side by side may have individual tubular screens 9 or may be enclosed by a tube of flattened cross-section, the opposing walls being compacted to engage each lamp over an area of contact, or the tube may be made up of separate members, or two metal screens may be used one on each side of the lamps. One screen may act as or be replaced by a reflector.
