Abstract

301,433. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Found, C. G.). Nov. 29, 1927, [Convention date]. Addition to 298,906. Vacuum tubes.-The tubular envelope of the gaseous discharge lamp described in the parent Specification is coiled into the form of a fiat spiral. In a rotating beacon light the lamp is arranged with the spiral 1 facing a main reflector 18, Fig. 3, and a small reflector 23 is arranged in front to throw back forwardly radiated light, preferably in the form of an image of the lamp out of register with the lamp itself so that the dark spaces between the coils are filled with light. The heater 8 of the cathode 2 may be in series with the lamp to form a resistance therefor. The anode 9 may be of iron, aluminium, nickel, or molybdenum, and the cathode of nickel coated with barium oxide, preferably by applying barium carbonate in a cellulose-compound binder and heating to about the melting-point of nickel. The tube may be of quartz united to the glass stems 6, 11 by graded seals.
