Abstract
410,648. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent Treuhand Ges. fiir Elektrische Gl³hlampen; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin.) Aug. 4, 1933, No. 21931. Convention date, Aug. 13, 1932. [Class 39 (i).] In luminous tubes containing metal vapour generated from a mass of metal which does not form the cathode or anode, but which is strongly heated by the discharge, cool parts of the envelope near an electrode are avoided by an opaque silver or other metal layer highly reflecting on its inner surface and deposited on the exterior of the envelope to cover hot and cool portions thereof and so reflect heat radiation from the former to the latter. The layer may also be highly reflecting on its outer surface and may cover protruding parts such as sealing- off pipes. The tube may contain permanent gas as well as the vapour. A direct-current tube may have the layer only at one end to counteract electrophoresis of the metal towards this end. Specifications 360,296 and 372,154 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also layers of gold or platinum. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
