597,148. Cooling charges. BREVETS AEROMECANIQUES SOC. ANON. April 10, 1941, No. 4815. Convention date, April 13, 1940. [Class 7 (ii)] Air supplied to an aircraft or other engine 6 by a compressor 2 is circulated by pipes 3, 4 through a heat-exchanger 1, the water or other liquid supplied to which circulates in a system open to the atmosphere, so that its temperature cannot rise above the boiling-point of the liquid at the pressure of the surrounding atmosphere. The liquid system is preferably fitted with a tank supply 7 to allow for evaporation, the tank being open to atmosphere. at 8; or a condenser may be provided to recover evaporated liquid. The liquid may circulate on the thermo-syphon principle, but a circulating-pump 11 is preferably provided.
