Abstract

451,930. Gas turbines. MARTINKA, M., 7, Schweizerstrasse, Duisburg, Germany. Nov. 13, 1934, No. 32708. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1933. [Class 110 (iii)] The compressed air for use in gas turbines &c. is moistened by water which is evaporated by the waste heat generated during the process of compression. The Figure shows an arrangement in which heat-exchangers 47, 46, 45 are placed between the stages of a compressor 48. Water is forced by a pump 43 through the exchangers to a sprinkler 49 in a tower 50 through which part of the compressed air is passed and is therein moistened. The supply of water to the system is controlled by a float 39 in the sump of the tower. Compressed air may be drawn off through a heat exchanger 44 for purposes other than combustion in the engine such as cooling. The waste gases of the engine may be used in a regenerator. Several arrangements of heat-exchangers are described.
