Class 29 In a refrigerating system for aircraft compressed air bled from the compressor of a gas turbine engine divides into two streams one flowing through compressor 1, heat exchanger 5, and expansion turbine 3 driving the compressor and the other flowing to a second turbine 2 also supplying power to the compressor 1. Exhaust air from turbines 2, 3 can be used respectively for cooling and cooling and/or pressurizing, although the air from turbine 2 can be exhausted to ambient. As shown, the speed of turbine 2 is regulated by air valve 6 controlled by speed pick-up 7 on the shaft of the turbines and compressor. The incoming air is cooled in exchanger 4; exchangers 4 and 5 may be water boilers.
