Abstract

428,058. Refrigerating. ELECTROLUX, Ltd., 153, Regent Street, London.-(Assignees of Platen-Munters Refrigerating System Aktiebolag; 2, Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm) Oct. 30, 1933, No. 30076. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1932. [Class 29] Cold-air and like non-condensing systems.- In a system in which cold is produced by the expansion of exhaust gases of an internalcombustion engine or by the expansion of air or other gas set in circulation directly or indirectly by the exhaust gases, the expanded cool gases exchange heat with the gases to be expanded. The exhaust gases may be led through an enlargement 1, Fig. 1, of the exhaust pipe to smooth out the delivery and are cooled in a gilled part 2 of the pipe and then expanded through a nozzle 3. The part 4 of the expansion pipe may be gilled for direct transmission of the cold, or may cool a secondary closed cycle heat transfer system, and the waste gases are passed through a heat-exchanger 6 to cool the gases prior to expansion. In another system, Fig. 2, the exhaust gases pass through an inducing nozzle 16 of an ejector 10 which draws atmospheric air through an expansion nozzle 14. The air thus cooled gives up its cold through the walls 16 of the expansion chamber 13, and is then led in heat exchange at 11 with the entering air. In another arrangement, the exhaust gases expand in a turbine 18, Fig. 3, which drives the rotary air compressor 19 of a closed circuit system having an expansion nozzle 24, and an interchanger 23. In this closed circuit air or heavier gases may be used. The above refrigerating system may be used on vehicles where refrigeration is also produced by utilizing part of the motor fuel in an evaporation system. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the utilizaton of the exhaust gas turbine for driving the compressor of a condensing refrigerating system. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
