Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an air conditioning system for vehicle, in which exhaust gas of engine is used as heat source and cooling medium used in cooling system is used also as heating medium for heating system, whereby heating effect can be obtained promptly. CONSTITUTION:The air conditioning system of this invention comprises refrigerating cycle consisting of compressor 10, condenser 13, expansion valve 17 and evaporator 19, and exhaust gas heat exchanger 25 in the exhaust system of engine 1. Further, a first additional coolant conduit 22 connected to a first three-way changeover valve 23 and a second additional coolant conduit 24 equipped with a second three-way changeover valve 31 and connected to exhaust gas heat exchanger 25 are provided in the exhaust system of engine 1. With such as arrangement, when cooling medium is passed to the additional coolant conduits 22, 24 with operation of valves 23, 31, coolant absorbs heat in exhaust gas heat exchanger 25 and radiates heat at evaporator, thereby heating air in the cabin. Here, since specific heat of the coolant in the cycle is smaller than that of water, amount of said coolant being smaller than that of engine cooling water, and it utilizes, as heat source, exhaust gas heat in the exhaust system in which temperature rise is so swift, cooling medium can be heated to a temperature suited for heating the cabin in a short while, so that heating effect can be obtained promptly after starting of engine.
