Abstract
764,200. Heating and cooling vehicles. PASTOR, J. L. Oct. 26, 1954 [Oct. 26, 1953], No. 30928/54. Classes 29 and 64(2) In a train air-conditioning system, hot or cold liquid, e.g. water or water with an anti-freeze, is passed by a pipe h to heat exchangers p, Fig. 2, each in a comartment m of a carriage l and returned through a pipe i to a supply carriage having a compartment b, Fig. 1, in which the liquid is heated or cooled. At the end of a carriage remoted from the supply carriage, the pipes hand i are interconnected to complete the liquid circuit. Air is drawn into each compartment m through a filter o by a fan n and passed over the heat exchanger p in which .the flow of liquid is controlled by the thermostat q in the compartment acting on a valve r. In the supply compartment b, the liquid is passed by a pump g through heat exchangers e to be heated by steam, electricity or combustion of propane or diesel oil or to be cooled by refrigerant, such as ammonia, from an absorption system or from an air-cooled condenser f and a compressor d driven by steam from the locomotive or by a diesel engine c. In winter the refrigeration system may be used as a heat pump. There may be more than one supply carriage on a train
