Abstract
590,531. Open tray burners. HAYTER, B., and BREEZE, L. March 20, 1945, No. 6993. Convention date, March 18, 1944. [Class 75 (i)] In a liquid fuel burner, an inverted burner pot 12 is situated over the aperture 4 of a combustion chamber 1, so that fuel is vaporized in a trough 41, the flames and combustion products being drawn by the draught into the chamber 1. Oil may be supplied through a nozzle 40 which is large enough to admit air from an inlet 38, air also being provided from primary air inlets 16, and from inwardly or downwardly directed secondary inlets 15 across which air is directed from holes 17 by a flange 18. The rate of flow of air to the burner pot may be increased by a fan 9 in the side of the outer casing 2. This casing may be detachable from the chamber 1, and may have a coverprovided aperture 6 to allow access to the burner pot 12, the burner pot having a cover 22 locked by a thumb screw 23 passing through a locking bar 24. There may be attached to the cover 22 an element 50, such as a stainless steel screen or a ceramic tube, which serves to radiate heat to the wall 44 of the trough 41 and assist the vaporization.
