Abstract

586,044. Step-ladders. GRAVITY LADDERS, Ltd., and BACH, C. H. July 26, 1944, No. 14241. [Class 20 (ii)] A step-ladder is built up of extruded, rolled or drawn metal sections, preferably of aluminium or light alloy, the sides of the ladder and treads being of channel section. The treads 2 are formed with longitudinal grooves to prevent slipping and may have one or more stiffening ribs 27. The side channels may be formed by spaced angle sections 1 to which the flanges of the treads are secured by screws or rivets 4. The prop 3 may be hinged at 7 to angles 5 which are secured by screws or rivets 6 to the sides 1. The prop may be coupled to the sides of the ladder by folding braces 8, or may be rigidly coupled to the ladder sides. The top tread may be of double width, formed by two treads in the same plane, to provide a platform.
