Abstract

1,265,436. Ladders. H. ZENHAUSERN. 1 April, 1970 [21 April, 1969], No. 15334/70. Heading E1S. A fire-escape ladder has one stile 1 fixed to the wall and the other stile laterally movable from its collapsed, out of use condition, where it is fixed to stile 1 by a pivotable catch 10, to an operative position wherein stops 7 on the stile engage stops 6 projecting from the wall. The light alloy stiles 1 are of channelsection with internal longitudinal drainage grooves (19), Fig. 2 (not shown). The light alloy rungs 3 are of U-section and ribbed and are pivotally connected to the stiles by bolts. A mercury switch 8 is built into one rung and is so connected to an acoustic and/or an optical alarm to actuate the alarm when the rung is horizontal. Spikes may be provided on the fixing members 4 on stile 1 and also on the stiles.
