338,474. Obbergen, A. van. April 3, 1929, [Conventioon date]. Ladders. - The sides of wooden ladders are strengthened on their inner faces by metal strips 3 with slit portions 6 registering with the mortices in the sides which are to receive the rung ends, so that, as the rungs are forced into position, the metal is turned into the mortices. The rungs are provided with grooves on their under surfaces to receive the upstanding ribs 4<11> of ribbed channel-section metal stiffening plates 4, and the rungs are secured to the sides by screws 8. For telescopic ladders, the side stiffening plates are provided with guiding grooves 9.
