Abstract

288,837. Saunders, H. T. May 10, 1927. Ladders. - A collapsable fire-escape ladder is formed of two outer side bars 8 and an intermediate bar 7, the steps 9 being pivoted to the bars and collapsable against the intermediate bar which is enclosed by the outer bars when collapsed. The intermediate bar is carried by radius rods 6, so that when collapsed the ladder may be pushed into casings 1 attached to the wall of the building and held therein by pivoted clips 11 operated by a sliding rod 13, levers 15, 16 and handles 17. The rungs are of T-section metal and may be provided with inclined ends to act as stops and roughened step portions to increase the grip and resistance to slipping.
