Abstract

981,934. Ladders. H. P. KNIGHT. April 22, 1963 [Jan. 22, 1962], No. 2336/62. Heading A6L. A lazy-tongs ladder is hung from a window sill or balcony balustrade by two chains 2. The chains are connected to eye bolts 3 inside the window. The ladder is pivoted to a platform 15 adapted to rest on the sill and mounted on the end of a curved handrail or rails 13 pivoted to a channel 14 fixed inside the window. When not in use the ladder is collapsed and swung with the platform and handrail inside the window. Struts 5 secured to pivots 8 of the ladder and engaging pivots 12, hold the ladder away from the wall and space the pivots. In a modification the ladder is hung from chains connected to hooks hooking on to the window sill. The Provisional Specification describes a lazy-tongs ladder mounted on eyebolts and having hand rails, the upper ends of which move rearwardly on rollers when the ladder is moved upwardly.
