Abstract
581,736. Hydroplane vessels. FAIRMILE MARINE CO., Ltd., and COOPER, F. Sept. 29, 1942, No. 13682. [Class 113 (ii)] The underside of the hull of a watercraft is provided with one or more recesses C which are rectangular in plan and of substantial depth throughout their length longitudinally of the craft, each reeess housing a solid or hollow wooden or metal box B of approximately the same dimensions hinged at its forward top edge D and presenting' a hydroplane surface A substantially flush with the underside of the hull and which may be adjusted to a projecting position to present a stepped surface. The angular setting of the hydroplanos may be changed by hydraulic jacks F supplied by the main or auxiliary engine H, the jacks being controlled manually or automatically in accordance with changes in engine speed. Rigid struts may be used to maintain the set positions, and means may be provided for emptying the recesses of any accumulated water.
