590,556. Landing craft. HIGGINS, A. J. Aug. 8, 1944, No. 15068. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1941. [Class 113 (ii)] A ferry for landing vehicles on a beach has a bow gate 19 which when hinged down forms a landing ramp, and when lifted, engages the sides of the vessel to form a water-tight bow: The forward end of the vessel has an extension 7 to form a protection to the gate in collision, and is also fitted with a flexible shield 31 to maintain water-tightness at the hinge. A hole 30 in the ramp receives the extension 7 when the ramp is down. In a modification (Fig. 11), the ramp is long, and is solid only for the portion 50a corresponding to the depth of the vessel's side. The remainder of the ramp is of lattice construction. The form of the vessels are preferably that described in -Specification 522,868.
