Abstract

1,023,983. Detachable ship structures. P. ST. G. KIRKE. June 23, 1964 [March 19, 1964], No. 11562/64. Heading B7A. A ship in which part of its structure is detachable from the ship and can float as a separate unit. Part 12 of the structure of ship 10 is detachable and may be equipped with an engine and manoeuvering means to enable personnel to escape drowning if ship 10 sinks or to enable the part to be used in shallow waters as a passenger ferry. Part 12 may be floated off or slid off by mechanical means, e.g. hydraulic rams. Friction between the bottom of part 12 and the adjacent surface of ship 10 is reduced either by rollers or by lubricant injection means.
