Abstract

1349374 Loading barges into ships WESER AG 3 May 1971 [2 May 1970] 12635/71 Heading B8Q Barges 3, Fig. 1, or other floating containers, are loaded into a ship by floating them in through doors in the hull. As described the ship is a catamaran and the barges are raised in a trough 6 in which they float. In one embodiment, Fig. 6, the trough 6 is secured to a framework 8 which is raised by pumping water into tanks 10 in which floats 9 are located. In a second embodiment, Fig. 7, the floats 9 are connected to the trough by cables 12. The trough 6 has hinged side and end doors to permit entry and exit of the barges. Fig. 11 shows one arrangement of water-tight doors 19 in the hull. Fig. 12 illustrates how the doors 15 on the trough 6 co-operate with doors 19 in the hull. A seal is formed between the trough 6 and the hull by a member 20. If the decks being loaded are above the water-line they are flooded by pumps. One central loading trough may be provided or two troughs may be used one forward and one aft. (For Figures see next page.)
